From his early childhood days, there were two constants in Robert Facey’s life: the church and the music of the sound system culture that reverberated around the Portmore community where he grew up.
Sounds like disparate influences, but Robert and his twin brother Roger learned early to pick out the good (the energy and dynamism of the dancehall) and leave out the bad (the lewdness, misogyny and violence of the lyrics).
Grammy-winning gospel artiste, pastor Donnie McClurkin returns to Jamaica tomorrow (Saturday, May 27), headlining a concert in support of the work of Woman Inc. The show is set for Kings House and begins at 7:30 pm.
Newsflash: The gospel group Fountains of Love will be launching their sophmore album SPREAD YOUR WINGS very soon. The album launched will be on April 23 at the Rehoboth Apostolic Church in Portmore St. Catherine. One of the MCs will be Leon Nash from Love101. Popular gospel deejay, Stitchie is on the verge of releasing his latest album Real Life Story simultaneously with an autobiography, The Power of Determination. Both works are expected to drop in the summer. “Its gospel, reggae gospel, dancehall gospel, undiluted, yuh know weh a mean,” said an upbeat Stitchie as he spoke about the album.
Popular gospel deejay, DJ Nicholas now has a new name- Minister Nicholas. The gospel deejay, who gave a superb showing at Fun In the Son – a free gospel show staged last Saturday at Hope Gardens, was appointed minister by two bishops in the last five minutes of his performance.
The newly appointed minister fell to this knees while both men stood above him in prayer. It was indeed a blessing as audience members agreed with each other in prayer. The nearly 3000 people in attendance might have come for a high-energy reggae-gospel workout, but instead were treated to an evening of praise and worship, since there was more ministry than performance.

IT HAS ONLY been a year since dancehall-artiste-turn gospel-minister Tyrone ‘Papa San’ Thompson and his family migrated to the United States and despite not hearing much about him locally, a lot has been happening for his ministry.
Well for those of you who do not already know, DJ Nicholas will be releasing his album within the next 2 to 3 weeks, and it is going to be good. I got a good listen of the album last night both on Love101 FM and at Jesus Party, and from what I heard, this album seems to be good. It includes songs like “Gimmie di mic” (not sure about the spelling) and others like “God man dem”.
