    Song Info

Please note: These are some of the favourite Jamaican choruses. Most of these choruses can be sung in many different ways and so this is only one (the popular) variation of how these choruses are sung.

    Alive alive, Alive forever more
My Jesus is alive, Alive forever more
    Alive alive, Alive forever more
    My Jesus is alive

    Sing hallelujah, Sing hallelujah
My Jesus is alive, alive forever more
    Sing hallelujah, Sing hallelujah

From the dust of the earth
      God created man
His breath made man a living soul
Ang God so loved the world that He gave His only Son
And that is why I love Him so.

My hands were made to help my neighbors
My eyes were made to read God’s word
My feet were made to walk in His footsteps
And my body is the temple of the Lord

    7. Angela Says:

All were made in His likeness created in His image

Angela, thank you so much for those words. My grandmother (89 years old) is on her death bed and the family is making arrangements for her funeral. She taught me this song and I sang it in Church when I was 7 years old. there is also a Spanish version to it. I had forgotten some of the lyrics and decided to search. God has impeccable timing! Even now, I can’t hold back the tears!! Thanks for responding.

    9. Sara Says:

Do you have the Spanish version? Please post it!

      Hello Jackie,
I hope you still check this site every once in a while. Because it was only today that I was lead here.

This is one of the first “adult songs” that my mother taught my younger sister, younger brother and I. (About 40 years ago.) We sang it at other Churches and on Radio Curch programs. This is the way we sang it. It is wonderful to know that someone else loves it too. I would love to hear it in the Jamaican style!

      “Born To Serve The Lord”

From the dust of the earth
      My God created man
His breath made man a living soul.
For God so loved the world, he gave his only Son
And that is why I love Him so.

      (Chorus)

I was made in His likeness,
      created in his image,
for I was born to serve the Lord.
Oh I will not deny Him,
I will always walk beside Him,
for I was born to the serve the Lord.

My hands were made to help my neighbors
My eyes were made to read God’s word
My feet were made to walk in His footsteps
And my body is the temple of the Lord

      (Chorus)
The first lines of the chorus changed in Momma’s version of this song, but I have heard it both ways.
      *****************************

Momma’s version….Oh let me be a Soldier true
      That I might help you,

Also used ….I was made in His likeness,
      created in his image,

      *Then begin here again.*

for I was born to serve the Lord.
Oh I will not deny Him,
I will always walk beside Him,
for I was born to the serve the Lord.

      God bless, Denise

    15. D Says:

Into the chamber, be free Holy Spirit, speak through me gently as I close the door
Heavenly lover, let thy presence cover, shekinah unending, is all I long for. By David Ingles 1978

The commonly sung version in Jamaica sounds xrated. This is the original Version.
